Physical Activity and Health
Synopsis
Physical activity is a fundamental component of a healthy lifestyle and plays a vital role in preventing and managing numerous chronic diseases. Regular participation in physical activity improves cardiovascular fitness, muscular strength, flexibility, and body composition while reducing the risk of conditions such as obesity, type 2 diabetes, hypertension, and cardiovascular disease. In addition to its physical benefits, regular exercise enhances mental health by reducing symptoms of stress, anxiety, and depression, while improving cognitive function, mood, and overall quality of life. This paper reviews the current evidence on the relationship between physical activity and health, highlighting the physiological, psychological, and social benefits of maintaining an active lifestyle. It also discusses recommended physical activity guidelines for different age groups and emphasizes the importance of integrating regular exercise into daily routines. The findings suggest that consistent physical activity is a cost-effective and evidence-based strategy for promoting overall health, preventing disease, and increasing longevity.
